COVID-19 and cannabis – what you need to know
Fear and stress are emotions that constantly accompany us in the present times of social distancing and quarantine. So naturally, we turn to hemp, which is known for its nervous and immune regulating properties. However, is the vaporization of CBD or ingesting CBD oils a good idea in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic? Is cannabis really a miracle cure for COVID-19? Here are some important facts about the relationship between this disease and cannabinoids. So is cannabis coping with COVID-19?
Cannabinoids help fight inflammation.
Cannabinoids (CBD) are an effective weapon in the fight against inflammation in our bodies. Inflammatory reactions are responsible not only for a number of chronic diseases but also for complications of infectious diseases, including COVID-19. CBD does not suppress the immune system but regulates in such a way as to suppress an excessive and harmful reaction to the body. When combined with a balanced diet and the optimal amount of sleep, cannabinoids are sure to improve overall immunity.
Remember! If you are taking prescription medications, especially antidepressants, consult your doctor about choosing the right doses of cannabinoids.
Is cannabis a miracle cure for COVID-19?
Since cannabinoids have such a beneficial effect on our body, can they prevent or even cure COVID-19? This question is asked quite often in social media, especially in the US. Unfortunately, at this stage, there are no studies yet that describe how CBD affects COVID-19. Claims for the treatment of COVID-19 with cannabinoid-containing products are not true.
How to consciously use cannabis?
While cannabinoids do not cure COVID-19, that doesn’t mean they can’t help you in this difficult time. CBD will relieve stress and fear as well as strengthen your immunity. However, is CBD inhalation a good idea?
Traditional smoking produces tar that is toxic, carcinogenic, and adversely affects your respiratory system. The cough that may appear while smoking is also disturbing. As a result, SARS-CoV-2 virus particles scatter, and we all want to avoid it. Additionally, the mucosa of the respiratory tract irritated by hot smoke is also more sensitive to all pathogens.
Vaporization, on the other hand, involves heating the herbs, thanks to which it releases the desired cannabinoids without harmful substances. It is a healthier alternative to traditional smoking. However, it is worth remembering that every substance we inhale affects our respiratory system, so we should consciously and reasonably approach the matter:
- wash your hands before and after the vaporization session;
- thoroughly clean the mouthpiece of the device between inhalations;
- switch to microdosing to control your breathing and avoid an unnecessary cough;
- do not plan sessions in larger groups.
Cannabis will strengthen your immune system, help you relieve pain and symptoms of chronic diseases, and help you fight fear and stress. But remember that this is not a drug – they will not prevent you from catching COVID-19 and will not help you heal yourself. In the meantime, think about switching from smoking to vaporizing, your body will surely feel the difference!
