CBD myths. Common misconceptions about CBD and medical marijuana
Many people associate cannabis with the “addictive” properties of marijuana. Lack of knowledge in the field of chemistry and biology and treating cannabis as a kind of taboo have led to the creation of many harmful myths about it. Since we already have basic knowledge, we can try to deal with the most popular and harmful myths about the effects of CBD products such as CBD oils or dried hemp.
CBD oils are drugs.
In Poland, CBD oils are recognized as dietary supplements, not drugs! This is one of the more damaging myths that circulate. CBD oil does not cure cancer, but it can aid conventional treatments. It certainly alleviates symptoms and pain in many patients.
CBD oils are the same as medical marijuana.
The hemp oils that can now also be purchased online are not medical marijuana. The main difference is that CBD oils are obtained from different plants. Marijuana is made from the female cannabis pollen-free inflorescences. Moreover, medical marijuana differs significantly from “traditional” marijuana. These are specific plants, the cultivation of which is subject to dozens of research, regulations, and legal procedures. Therefore, these are two different products, and let’s not be persuaded that when we buy oil in an online store, we are buying medical marijuana. It is available only in pharmacies, and prescriptions are prepared from the recipes by a pharmacist and are issued on prescription.
CBD products are drugs.
Cannabis, although known and widely used throughout the history of mankind, has a bad reputation. All because of smoking cannabis, i.e. marijuana, which has intoxicating and psychoactive effects. In the case of cannabidiol, i.e. CBD, this is out of the question. It is obtained from a completely different plant – hemp inflorescences. The THC content in this variety is less than 0.2%, while the concentration of this psychoactive substance in cannabis is around 20%. The difference is fundamental – CBD is a substance from the same “family”, apart from its pro-health and relaxing effect, it also neutralizes the intoxicating effects of THC.
CBD is a drug – THC is a dangerous drug.
As we already know, research is still being conducted on the effects of these two substances on human health. We also know that they interact with each other, and perhaps it is in this coexistence that the potential power of cannabinoids lies. THC, administered in controlled concentrations in the company of other cannabinoids and terpenes, alleviates the symptoms of many ailments.
CBD is not psychoactive
Psychoactivity is often confused with an intoxicating effect, this is a mistake. If in the case of patients with mood disorders or depression, a marked improvement in mood can be observed after the administration of an appropriately selected dose of CBD, we cannot define CBD as a clearly non-psychoactive substance.
CBD acts as a sedative.
Cannabidiol improves the functioning of the nervous system by naturally regulating its work, and thus helps to restore the proper rhythm of sleep. The substance itself may induce mild euphoria, which in two phases causes drowsiness. CBD does not calm you down, but it regulates the body’s natural life processes, including sleep.
In the human stomach, CBD is converted to THC.
As we already know, CBD neutralizes tetrahydrocannabinol, they are two different substances. CBD is not metabolized to THC, as confirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO) in its 2017 report, it says: “The simulated gastric fluid does not accurately reflect the physiological conditions in the stomach. CBD with delta-9-THC has not been detected in humans undergoing CBD treatment.
The higher the dose, the more effective the action
The determination of the dose of CBD is an individual matter – regardless of whether it is taken as a supplement or as an addition to therapy in serious diseases. In the second case, it should be consulted with a specialist doctor. You should also take into account the difference between the isolate – i.e. pure CBD, and the oils that contain all the cannabinoids produced by the plant. In the latter case, the spectrum of action is much wider, so the dose may be lower than for isolates.
Isolates are more effective than dried or oils.
CBD flowers and full-spectrum oils allow us to get everything out of the plant. CBD is not the only cannabinoid that has a known positive effect on the human body. The hemp flower consists of over a hundred compounds that, through their cooperation, have a positive effect on our bodies. It is an obvious myth that only CBD has medical and therapeutic properties.
